The Balearic Islands are an archipelago of four main islands in the western Mediterranean: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Each has its own personality, from the mountains and historic towns of Mallorca to the nightlife and quiet coves of Ibiza, the calm of Menorca and the white beaches of Formentera. At Homes-Abroad.com, we help English, Danish, Swedish, and other Northern European buyers find the right home in the islands, and most of our listings are on Mallorca.
What Makes the Balearic Islands Different?
- A premium market. Most of the homes we list in the islands fall between roughly €399,000 and €5.5 million, with a median asking price of around €1.3 million.
- Mostly established homes. About nine in ten of our listings are resale properties, such as townhouses, stone fincas and villas. A smaller number are new build properties.
- Four islands, four characters. You can choose a lively resort, a quiet cove, a mountain village or a city with a historic old town, all within a short flight or ferry of each other.
- Well connected. Palma airport has direct flights from many cities in Northern Europe, and each island has its own airport and ferry links.
Where Should You Buy in the Balearic Islands?
Mallorca
Mallorca is the largest island and where we list most homes. It has the capital Palma De Mallorca, the resort of Santa Ponsa, the mountain town of Soller and the northern towns of Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa, as well as the beaches and coves of Capdepera in the east.
Ibiza
Ibiza is the best known of the other islands, with property that is among the most expensive in Spain. The market is small, so we recommend speaking to an adviser early.
Menorca and Formentera
Menorca is calmer and greener than its larger neighbour, and Formentera is the smallest and quietest of the four. We do not currently list homes on either island, so contact us if you are interested.
The province page
The Balearic Islands form a single province, with all current listings on Mallorca and Ibiza. See the province page for more about the towns where we list homes.
