The Balearic Islands are among the most sought-after places in Europe to own a home, and Mallorca, the largest island, is where we list the most. It combines a long coastline of coves and beaches, the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, historic towns and a capital with an international airport. At Homes-Abroad.com, we help English, Danish, Swedish, and other Northern European buyers find the right home in the islands, from apartments in Palma to country houses and sea-view villas.

What Makes the Balearic Islands Different?

The islands are at the premium end of the Spanish market, with a strong identity of their own. Here is what draws our buyers:

  • A premium market. Most of the homes we list here fall between roughly €399,000 and €5.5 million, with a median asking price of around €1.3 million.
  • Mostly established homes. About nine in ten of our listings are resale properties: townhouses, stone fincas and villas with history behind them. A smaller number are new build properties.
  • Variety in a small area. Beach resorts, mountain villages, vineyards and the city of Palma are all within an hour or so of each other on Mallorca.
  • Well connected. Palma airport has direct flights from many cities in Northern Europe.

Where Should You Buy in the Balearic Islands?

Nearly all of our current listings are on Mallorca, with a few on Ibiza. Menorca and Formentera are also part of the province, so contact us if you are interested in those islands.

Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest and most varied of the islands, with homes at almost every price point from city apartments to country estates. Our page on Mallorca has more on the island and its towns.

Palma De Mallorca, Santa Ponsa and Soller

Palma is the capital, with a historic old town, a cathedral and a marina. Santa Ponsa is a resort town on the south-west coast with golf nearby, and Sóller lies in a valley in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.

Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa and Capdepera

Pollença is a stone-built town in the north with an arts scene, Port de Pollença is its relaxed seaside neighbour, and Capdepera in the east has beaches and coves.

Binissalem, Marratxí and Inca

These inland towns offer more space for the price and easy access to Palma. Binissalem is a wine-growing town, and Inca is a market town at the centre of the island.

Ibiza

Ibiza is the best known of the other islands. Property there is among the most expensive in Spain and the market is small, so we recommend speaking to an adviser early.
